ABOUT
A family of Texans and Okies established the Tumbleweed Escape in 2021 after 60 years of the family enjoying friends’ cabins in the area or tent camping at Bear and Blue Lake.
A multi-generational dream was fulfilled when the opportunity arose to finally own a cozy cabin tucked in the West Spanish Peaks development and surrounded by two whimsical streams. They quickly planted their flag on an acre of land, home to a modernized 1960’s cabin, and will never look back.
Tumbleweed Escape most comfortably hosts 4 adults with its 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. It is a little under 3 miles from the town of Cuchara, Colorado.
While at the cabin, guests can enjoy zero cell service yet high-powered internet. The choice is yours to unplug and decompress or make it your office in the mountains for a few days.
Just one mile from the cabin is the turn off for two large lakes – Bear and Blue -- for avid fishers. Further down the road are Monument and North lakes, as well as hiking trails and mountain biking trails from 3 miles to 10 miles long and several 13,000 to 14,000-foot peaks for enjoying an early morning summit.
On the border of the property is the San Isabel U.S. National Park where you can take ATVs or Jeeps and enjoy the experience of an intense joyride up to the top of Trinchera Peak.
Just 12 miles to the north is the quaint neighboring town of La Veta with more small-town shopping, farmers markets, local art galleries, and local dining. In La Veta, you can also purchase a fishing license and then head for a scenic drive to the Conejos River for tour-guided fly-fishing trip through the lush rivers and streams in the Rocky Mountains.
In the winter, a majority of the Cuchara community goes into hibernation from December to February due to heavy snows. Bring your snow shoes from your hometown ski shop or snuggle up for a few days of reading and resting next to a warm wood-burning fire and surrounded by the luxuriously large cabin windows. Renting in the winter is more limited. Please contact the hosts before booking.
**Please be prepared to drive any groceries in with you to the cabin. If you are coming from the South, the closest grocery shopping location is Trinidad, Colorado.
